- "Really?", Mary said.

Today thousands of young people in many countries are scouts. Scouts usually wear a uniform. They meet each week to participate in various activities. Each scout troop consists of patrols with 6-8 scouts in each and a patrol leader. The leader of the whole scout troop is called the scout master.

Typical activities include outdoor activities such as camp craft and survival skills, tying knots, map reading, orienteering, hiking, climbing, canoeing, sailing and many other sports. Other activities include cooking, singing, learning about local history and concerns about the wider world. If scouts learn enough about a subject they may gain an award and receive a badge

Scouts also organise and take part in fund-raising events for charities.

Being a scout is about being a good citizen.
